Consonants
Consonants are divided into three classes (or if it's helpful, think of them as categories or groups) that help determine the tone a syllable when combined with vowels, endings, and tone marks. These classes are Middle, Low, and High.
Note: Do not associate their labels with tones. For instance, Low Class letters does not mean that they automatically create a low tone. The classes are simply categories. If it is helpful, change the classes to colors — green, yellow, and red categories.
Middle Class consonants are easier to distinguish because all of the letters within the Middle Class do not share a sound with another letter. The Low and High Classes, on the other hand, have letters that share sounds with each other and can be a little trickier to distinguish.
